The first edition of STEP AP209 was published in 2001 under the name "Composite and Metallic Structural Analysis and Related Design".
The primary intent of the standard was to combine CAD, CAE and PDM capabilities to enable sharing of PDM controlled composite and metallic design, analysis, and material properties information.
